The UFC is in Houston this week for Saturday’s UFC 247 pay-per-view card. Before that event takes place, the UFC holds a press conference for the upcoming UFC 248 fight card, which features a middleweight title fight at the top of the card. UFC 248 takes place on March 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The headlining bout sees Israel Adesanya put his middleweight crown on the line against Yoel Romero.
Adesanya, who sports a 16-0 record, won the interim 185-pound title in April 2019 with a decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in a contest that many considered the best fight of the year. Then, in October, Adesanya unified the titles with a second-round knockout win over Robert Whittaker. Adesanya has earned fight-night bonus awards in each of his five past outings. The 30-year-old has fought seven times for the UFC, he has taken home bonuses in all but one of those fights.
UFC 248 also features a women’s strawweight title fight. In that bout, which serves as the evening’s co-main event, sees Weili Zhang put her title on the line against former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Jedrzejczyk is the No. 4 ranked contender in the 115-pound division.
